Question: i have a 1982, 1987 and 1989 migratory bird hunting duck stamps that are in fine quality i would like to now there current value i know the face value of the stamps its on the front of each. i am trying to find out what the collector value is. last year when i recieved info on them the three stamps had a combined value of $100.00. Answer: Supposing you have subtracted 1 from the "void after" date to determine the year of issue, American collectors would identify your stamps as Scott catalog numbers RW49, RW54, and RW56, with catalog values respectively of $7, $9.50, and $10. Have unsigned Duck Stamps with void dates of June 3o, 1970, 1971, & 1972. Anyone know what they are worth? Question: These are Migratory Bird Hunting Stamps, (Duck Stamps): l) White-Winged Scoter, cost was $3, void after June 30, 1970; 2) Ross' Geese, ($3), void after June 30, 1091; 3) Common Teal, ($3), void after June 30, 1972. These were issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior. Signatures were required in order to hunt. These are in great condition and are unsigned. Any info would be appreciated regarding what they might be worth. Answer: These catalogue in the $40-65 range, with the older ones being higher value. That does not mean that you can sell them for that much. Catalogue values tend to be a bit high--most dealers sell stamps for less than catalogue value, which means they have to buy them for much less than catalogue value. Does anyone know the value of old Federal Duck Stamps? Some are in the 1930-1940's, 1960-70's? Question: Some of the stamps are signed, most are not. Years range from 1937 to 1981. I have 20 stamps total. Answer: Check out the web site below. This is a small stamp dealer in England. But he seems good at valuing stamps from all over the world. His email is fss@internetstamps.co.uk - it may be a good idea to scan your stamps and send pictures? Also Google Stanley Gibbons - they are the worlds biggest stamp dealers. But they sell at top valuation - they don't always buy at those values. At stamp in Stanley Gibbons catalogue valued at $500 will probably sell in reality for $500 - and yes they do still sell for silly amounts of money! |

How do I find the value of a duck stamp? Question: I know nothing about stamp collecting. I found some stamps while cleaning out my deceased uncle's house. Answer: You can go to your nearest library and get a copy of Scotts stamp catalogue and you can get a rough idea as to what the value of duck stamps might be. You could also visit several stamp dealers for an approx. value. |

what happen's to old stamps when the post office does not sell all of them? Question: If there is a collectable stamp or past stamp that does not sell out where do they go? Does the post office just keep them untill someone buys them. Even if they have a date/timeline to use by like the federal duck stamps? Answer: I am a retired postal worker. The last 20 years I was a carrier, but for the first several years I occasionally worked as a clerk and sold stamps. When the postage rate increased, Lets say from $.14 to $.15. I would sell the $.14 stamps I had in my drawer with a $.01 to be used together on each envelope. |

Answer: You don't need a Federal Waterfowl stamp until you turn 16. I don't know about the other things. It would depend upon state law. |
