Are sending cards thru the postal system a way to get to know someone?
Question:
Imagine this...You cant see the persons face or communicate with them by any other way except sending greeting cards thru the postal system (human mailman days). Question is: Do you think you could get to know someone just by the cards they send?

Answer:
I'm sure you can. People used to do the "message-in-a-bottle" thing.=] I don't know if it would work nowadays because there are so many corrupted people, but it might work. And you can get to know a person through mail, as long as neither side is lying about anything.

Why does the British postal service deliver cards instead of the parcels?
Question:
Many times I have had a card put through the letterbox without the doorbell being rung. (It is IMPOSSIBLE not to hear anyone's doorbell in these flats.) Why does the Royal Mail deliver these red cards saying I must collect the parcel from the Delivery Office instead of just delivering the parcel? Is it company policy?

Answer:
I'm sure they will say they did ring the bell, but no one answered...in reality they have limited time in which they are given to deliver the mail...they used to get paid overtime if they got back to the office a bit late - but to save money (and I'm sure some people were taking the micky with it) they stopped this. so they start at 6am and sort the post into their rounds (how they walk their streets) then they take it out, they only get paid until 3 pm..any thing after that they aren't getting paid! - no one works for free. They also get a massive rollicking if they are late back - as it does affect the companies performance results. So the postie just doesn't have time to hang around! Also posties are only allowed 4 sick days a year!! if they go over that they get an automatic disciplinary - One guy in my local office got fired because he took too many sick days - he had cancer! They big cheeses are squeezing the posties and trying to make them do impossible jobs!

does anybody know the story of tanzan.. and the sixty postal cards he wrote?
Question:
he wrote 60 cards on the day he died. i think he was a monk.

Answer:
Yes, I've heard of him, he was a Buddhist monk. The 60 cards he wrote apparently said "I am departing from this world. This is my last announcement. Tanzan. July 27, 1892." And that's it. To be honest, other than that, I don't really know a lot about the guy, but I'm sure if you google him, you'll get more information.

Do you use a shredder or tear in little pieces postal mail that others can for credit cards or steal our ID?
Question:
How would someone put together postal mail that was ripped up by hand into little pieces? Is using a shredder all that important?

Answer:
yes shred it. you should see what I have found people trying to piece back together. if you are desperate enough not to have to work, you will try anything.

question about post cards and the US postal service?
Question:
Is it acceptable to make your own postcard out of poster board, address it, stamp it and mail it? are there any rules about post cards/ hand made post cards?

Answer:
I would assume that, as long as it's not substantially bigger than a regular post card, you could get away with it. Most of the cards on PostSecret are hand-made and they still get through the mail system just fine.

Can I have a package insured by the postal service if it contains gift cards?
Question:
How can I make sure that the recipient receives these gift cards and that they are covered if they are lost in the mail, etc.?

Answer:
Send it Certified, and someone at that address will have to sign for it. You will get a slip in your mail box with their signature. For about one or 2 dollars you can get it insured. Actually you can insure it for any amount. But the price goes up the with the value of the insurance. You have to do this at the Post Office.

Do I have to put a $1.00 stamp on my cards? Will the postal service notice if I skimp?
Question:
I am mailing Christmas cards...I knew that the cards would be $0.62 because they are square shaped, I took them to the post office today and they are not *quite* square shape, about 1/8 of an INCH longer on one side, the postal worker told me postage is $1.00 per card! Do you think I can get away with just putting on the $0.62 postage or do they measure every card?

Answer:
I would say they will catch it. Maybe try a couple and see if they come back? 62 cents, plus a dollar additional per card if they come back? Maybe you should just put the proper amount on first?

Does anyone have the "Michel" numbers for German postal cards from 19th century?

Answer:
You could buy a Michel catalog or maybe find one at a library: "The Michel catalog (MICHEL-Briefmarken-Katalog) is the largest and best-known stamp catalog in the German-speaking world. First published in 1910, it has become an important reference work for philately, with information not available in the English-language Scott catalog."

"Promise you won't forget me, because if I thought you would, I'd never leave." Winnie the Pooh “How lucky I am to have known someone who was so hard to say goodbye to” ~Unknown~ “The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.” ~Unknown~
