What do you think is the biggest turning point in history from 1901 to now?

Answer:
WW1 WW2 was a result of WW1. WW2 led to America and the Soviet Union becoming "Super Powers" and that led to most of the world events of the 20th century. Many of the problems in the Middle East and Southeast Asia today can be traced back to WW2, which leads us back to WW1.

How can I find out how much my 1880 and 1901 Silver U.S Dollar Coin is worth now? I don't know much about it.
Question:
How can I find out how much my 1880 and 1901 Silver U.S Dollar Coin is worth now? I don't know much about it. Where can I find out? Or does anyone have any rough idea? Thanks in advance

Answer:
First of all have you looked to see if either one has a mint mark. It is located on the eagle side at the bottom below the wreath. 1880 date the one with the mint mark CC is worth the most around $155 or so depending on grade. The others are worth aound $18 to $30 depending on grade. Silver is worth over $20 an ounce, so just silver value alone is over $15.46. That is however not what a dealer would pay he pays a percentage less. The 1901 with out a mint mark is worth around $25 to $40 in the better circulated grades, the mint marked ones less like the 1880, it's silver value is the same. Hope this helps.

dow 60 in 1901 now 8500 cagr 5% nekki 7162 in 1982 same after 26 yrs.Is it worth investing in equities?

Answer:
All of this ignore dividends. The dividend yield on the Dow is usually about 3% which means that the avt. annual yield is about 8% which is pretty good; much better than you'd do in any other asset class including bonds. You've managed to pick the worst period for the Nikkei, what if I picked 1948 to today. I bet the results would be vastly different. None the less, the dividend yield for the Nikkei has averaged about 2% so you would have made 2% annually over your 26 yield period.

Who are the Baltimore Orioles (1901) Now?
Question:
... And who is your favorite player?

Answer:
They moved to NYC in 1903 and became the NY Highlanders, playing in Hilltop Park in Manhattan. The American League wanted an establishment in NYC to rival John McGraw's NY Giants. McGraw had been upset because the new AL began to raid the NL team rosters, including his, by offering more money. The local newpaper reporters, not wanting to type out a long name like the Highlanders, unofficially called them the Yankees. In 1913, Yankees became the official name. The rest, as they say, is history. My favorite player is Derek Jeter, of course. GO YANKEES!

To what extent was life different in 1901 than it is now?

Answer:
Transport on roads was still mostly horse-drawn, though the motor car was making an impact. Bicycling was a craze with both sexes, who took to the roads in large numbers. Women's legs could be seen for the first time. Most married women stayed at home with their families, though most single women worked for a living, and of course some poor married women had to work. All households that could afford it employed domestic servants, even quite a modest household would be able to afford to employ a maid-of-all work. Many of the domestic conveniences that we take for granted now were not available in those days. A lot of people did have indoor plumbing in 1901, and electric light and telephones were also available, but not everyone had them. Washing machines had yet to be invented. They had gramophones, but no TV or radio. The motion picture industry was in its infancy, with short silent films being shown. The assasination of Presidnet McKinley and the death of his killer was one of several real-life events re-enacted for the cinema. More people though would enjoy going to the theatre or the music-hall (vaudeville in America) The New Woman was a subject of much comment in America. Women were going to college in large numbers, eding their way into the professions, and taking a great interest in social reform. The leader of the suffragete movement was Carrie Champman Catt, processions in favour of women's rights took place all over America. The Temperence Movement was in full swing, with Carrie Nation and others like her smashing up saloons with axes.
