Where can I find the score to the 1941 original wolfman? Question: I've just recently seen the Original 1941 film "The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr. Now, I'm an avid music collector and after hearing the score in the film knew I wanted to hear it without the film. Is there any place I can find a soundtrack or anything of the sort for either purchase or download. I've been looking and haven't been able to find it anywhere despite the fact that I could find the score to other classic monster movies quite easily. Either the name of the songs themselves or a music score soundtrack would be appreciated. Any help? Answer: Although this is not classical music in a 'strict' sense and that I cannot claim being a real movie soundtrack buff, I'm more than willing to answer your question since there is really great music here. As far as one can trust the Internet, a commercial recording of the original soundtrack from the 1941 movie seems to never have been put on the market (the only way to come close to this is to buy the DVD and actually extract the tracks yourself). Composer Charles Previn wasn't even credited back then so it is safe to assume that Universal didn't care to keep his music in view of some future albeit hypothetical monetary benefit. So, from what we learn here...: http://filmscorefanatic.blogspot.com/2008/11/wolf-man-1 941.html http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000004644/theha rdbophomepa/ ...the music we hear today on this CD (2nd link) is a most skillful reconstruction of the original score written by John Morgan. And, from the rave reviews it gets, it really seems to be worth every penny Marco Polo asks for it. Hope that helped. Best regards |

Where were you on "day of infamy", Dec 7 1941? Where were you when you heard news? What'd you think?? Now? Question: Does Dec 7 get forgotten, with the Christmas season? Why did Hitler's allies attack the USA...waking up a "sleeping giant"? Was WWII a righteous war? Does December 7th make you stop and think? Was that the "9-11" of that generation? Are you old enough to remember what happened on Dec 7th, 1941? If you were alive then, do you remember where you were when you heard? What were your thoughts and feelings at that time? How do you feel NOW?!? Dec 7 1941 was a clear attack by the "Axis of Evil". Although Hitler did not attack America, he immediately declared war on the USA when his ally Japan did (maybe even before the U.S. declared war on him). Still it was clear who to attack. They were nations at war. Is this undeclared "third world war" an effort to create an Arab-controlled "one world government"? It is not so easy to retailate, because it is not a nation or nations hat accept credit for world terrorism. Rather it is their "anarchist" countrymen (like the anarchist assasin who provoked the first world war), Could their aims possibly be directed by the coming Anti-Christ? What are we up against, in this "war on terror"?!? Answer: I was 9 years old, and mother and I were visiting my grandma for the weekend...grandma had neither a telephone nor a radio, so my father drove down from the city [about 50 miles away from grandma's little town] and told us about it and then took us home right away. At that time, we didn't know if the Japanese could get across the ocean and bomb the west coast of the US [which is where we were living] so we got very scared. I remember driving past the big Lockheed aircraft factory in Long Beach [then devoted to building stuff for the Brits] and seeing they had hung big camouflage nets over the roads going past the plant and there were big guns up on the roofs of the buildings. We were glad to get home and then my parents listened to the radio all night until we got some reassurance that no, the Japanese airplanes could not get across the Pacific after all. We had blackout practices and hung shades and curtains for night-time, and learned to recognize the woo-woo-woo of the air-raid siren a few blocks away. The feelings of war without any war on our country's soil...and our cousins in England were suffering so. |

If todays congress was in power in 1941-45, what language would we now speak in the USA? Answer: We'd still be speaking English. The presidents ended the war, not Congress. Just like Congress has no say on when to end this war either. Congress is just along for the ride. Sure, you can play with the purse strings a bit, but in the end if the President has the will to continue, the war will continue. Simple as that. On the European front you had the Yalta conference and a few strategic offensives in the Winter and Spring. (FDR) In the Pacific theater you had the Atom Bomb. (Truman) FDR and Truman were both Democrats. |

Where can I buy darker wood baseboards? Question: We're replacing baseboards in older home (built 1941) now that the hardwood floors have been refinished (very pretty!). We need the boards to be about an inch thick (to cover the varying lengths in the edges of the floor), taller (5", at least), and in the darker wood tones to match the wood floors. Do baseboards like this exist? Would we be better off buying and staining our own lumber to make sure we got what we needed? Answer: it's easier to stain your own... that way, you can take the color in, and they can match it. if it isn't quite what you want, then stain, and varnish it how you want them to look.... |
