Where can I sell first-day covers (stamps)? Question: I have a collection of first day covers from early 1980s purchased from Reader's Digest company, which has a sheet with information regarding subject of the first day cover/stamp. Also have a collection of first day covers sponsored by World Wildlife Fund. Answer: I fear mangidabx may be right. I was once in a stamp shop and overheard the owner say to someone looking to sell his FDCs 'You've got hundreds? Well, I've got thousands.' I've also noticed stamp dealers sell stamps which have obviously been cut off of FDCs. If they have any sentimental meaning, keep them as they probably won't fetch much. If you are keen to get rid of them, try the suggestions above. |

Are stamps and first day covers from 1963 worth anything today? Question: Are first day covers from 1963 worth anything today? HOw do I value them and Can I auction them? Answer: Some are- I have a Che Guevara stamp that is worth $6.00- Russian stamps from that era go for some money, depending un condition. Cuba holds it's value well, as does Russia, South America (barely) and France commemoratives. People usually buy stamps brom their place of ancestry - or what their interested in. or famous characters (Like che). Sheer rarity is also a factor, as is age, condition and place of origin. Unused coil stamps (the one in a roll) go pretty high. Misprints go for a lot (if you're luck and find someone interested). Most really expensive stamps come from pre-1900's Vatican, Italy, France commemorative 1940's, pre-civil war US.stamps fro the 60's that commemorat vastly significant historic events (Cold War, Viet Nam, Etc) are worh more. Another way to make money on stamps is sheer volume -- get a shoebox full of them - buy low, sell high. Promote, promote, promote. |
