Question: I accidentally rear ended someone when we got to a stop, it was a light tap and there was 1 tiny single scratch (I thought the pedal was fully pressed down). So my new plates are coming in, but my old liscense plate number is on my registration sticker? Is this a problem? Does it matter? Is there a way I can change it? What can I do with a license plate number? Question: These jerks were harrassing me and my friends today then took off in their car. We managed to get their license plate number and want to do some payback! Any ideas of what we can do with just a license plate number? So if I report harassment what does that do? Would I have to go to court in order for them to be punished? Answer: Call the police department and file a harassment report. DO NOT do anything gripper 2 suggested for you to do. Not only does it waste a police officer's time following up false claims, but you could also get in trouble for filing false reports. |

Does anyone have a photograph analyzer that can get a license plate number off a digital picture of a vehicle? Question: My picture blurs after zooming in. This vehicle has been very suspiciously patrolling our neighborhood and the police won't do anything until we get a license plate number. Answer: I could do it if there is enough information in the file, but the answer is, "No, you can't do this at home, or at least not with this software'. The pro software for doing this starts at about $4,000.00 for the basic program. There may be some program out there that can do the process. It's called single frame blind deconvolution if it is from a still photo. If it is from a video, they use multiple frames (about 8) to construct a single image. You can google the terms. I think Focus Magic can do some sort of forensic image recovery, but I am not sure how good it is. If your image is not so blurred that the information is down in the noise level, it may do it for you. I believe they have a free demo download available. Look it up on the web. Addenda: Vince is incorrect. I refer him to the specialized processes such as the ForWard wavelet deconvolution approach. This will do single frame image deblurring. Like I said, I can do it. I use Matlab running from Photoshop CS3 Extended. This is an example of ForWard processing: http://picasaweb.google.com/Vance.Lear/Deblur/phot o?authkey=2h-oPDMoWAQ#5113292404159330194 There is a difference between extracting information from an image and producing what you would consider a photograph. If Vince is thinking in those terms, he is right. The end result of this processing is not a nice picture, but the information you are out to extract is there. This is not the fantasy image processing of the CSI type, but real down and dirty stuff. It is also very expensive to do. None of this, of course, is available to the asker. |
